Textive can fill in missing contact names using a .vcf (vCard) export of your phone’s contacts. If you’ve never created one before, here’s how, start to finish.
1. Decide where to export from
Most Android phones sync contacts to a Google account, which makes Google Contacts the easiest way to do this. It works from a computer’s browser, so you don’t need to touch the phone at all. If your contacts live only on the device itself, use the phone’s own Contacts app instead, covered as an alternative below.
2. Export from Google Contacts (recommended)
Go to contacts.google.com and sign in with the Google account synced to your phone. Near the top of the contacts list, look for an upload icon (an arrow pointing up out of a box) sitting between the print icon and a three-dot menu, and click that to export. Choose which contacts to include (all of them is simplest), then pick vCard as the format and export. It downloads as a single .vcf file.
Don’t see your contacts here? Google Contacts only shows contacts synced to that account. If your phone saves contacts locally instead (or to a different account), use the phone’s own Contacts app below instead.
3. Or, export directly from your phone (alternative)
Most Android Contacts apps have their own export option, usually under a menu icon (often three dots, or “Settings”) with a label like Export or Import/export, offering to save a .vcf file to the device. The exact wording and location varies by phone manufacturer, so look around that menu if it’s not obvious.
4. Get the file onto whatever device you’ll upload from
If you exported from Google Contacts on the same device you’ll upload from, you’re already set. Otherwise, transfer the file however’s easiest: email it to yourself, connect the phone with a USB cable, or save it to Google Drive (or similar) and download it from there.
5. Upload it
Sign in to Textive and upload that .vcf file on the Imports page’s Contacts tab. It only ever fills in names for phone numbers already in your archive, so it’s completely safe to upload your whole contacts list: it never creates new contacts or conversations on its own.
